Act I, Scene 5
Miss Loi’s Temple, The Temple Gates
TWAAANG! …
*hurried footsteps*
[Enter CHIEF DISCIPLE]
The Chief Disciple of The Temple appeared and rushed forward to kneel on one knee before the High Priestess.
My High Priestess 教主!
Your … hair! Your … face …!!! *points trembling fingers*
I know it’s Halloween Eve but …
*cough cough*
Yes I know.
These consecutive O Level Maths flying daggers throwing cum solutions cum comments replying have greatly affected my 元气 and taken a toll on me.
And it’s not helpful when they scheduled a lethal AMaths/Chemistry Terror Tuesday to tekan our disciples, especially that 8 am AMaths paper which caused me to miss many hours of my beauty sleep.
*cough*
My beautician is going to have her work cut out for her after this!
So my High Priestess 教主! Do you still have energy for one more paper? I heard it’s quite easy …
This time the air suddenly went deathly still as she closed her panda eyes and seemed to pause for an eternity.
When she began, she pounded on her guzheng like never before, churning out frantic, angry mathematical notes that rocked the very foundation of The Temple, and sent a wild tempest that whipped through the streets of Novena – causing leaves to fly around like kinematic particles with numerous turning points, and cups from the nearby Gong Cha stall to bounce off the floor like modulus graphs (the floor being the x-axis).
And so, her unearthly tune went faster and faster and faster …
twaaang! twaaang! twaaang! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG! TWAAANG!
… until, one by one, the strings of her musical instrument began snapping and her fingers started to bleed *ewwwwe* … until the following shot out:
Click the button and grab it here!
Latest version:
- 1.1: Q3(iii) & Q5(iii) – removed the + c in the definite integrals
- 1.2: Included the short & sharp alternate segment theorem method for Q4(iii)
N.B. As usual, please, please leave a comment should you spot any mistake in the solution.
The tune ended as abruptly as it began.
With that, the High Priestess Merlion-ed spattered a spray of blood from her mouth before collapsing to the floor.
On seeing this, the Chief Disciple rushed forward to cradle her in his arms.
My High Priestess 教主! Are you alright???!!!!
With a trail of blood flowing from her trembling lips, she gathered her last ounce of strength for the following words.
No … more … maths. Till … next … year.
Gan … batte … to … all … for … your … remain … ing … papers.
NEVER … STOP … LEARNING.
*goes limp*

Oh no !
I only put y = ln 5, forgot to evaluate it and did careless for the give-away question of the R formulae -.- Just wondering, will some marks be given even if we convert ans to the opposite form ?
曜
日
@Cynthia: For Q6(b), actually leaving it as ln 5 should be fine as well, as mark schemes tend to accept "or equivalent" answers 😀
Umm ... for Q9(ii) if you have left your answer in R sin (θ − α) form you might still salvage something from your value of R (assuming it's correct).
曜
日
@Miss Loi: Oh gosh. I memorised formula and know how to solve... but was "blind" didn't see qn properly straight away do, ans is in R sin ( tetra - alpha ).
Wasted argh.
By the way, for coordinate geometry question, I don't know how to solve but tried my best to derive values of midpt, equation of parallel line next to AB, can get at least 2 marks ?
曜
日
@Cynthia: This question ish not simple.
While it ultimately depends on the mark scheme, in general your methods & workings will need to be spot-on appropriate for the question at hand, with only the substitution of a wrong value or two that led to the wrong answer - only then will you get your method mark(s).

for qn 6b) is it ok to leave my ans at ln(5)?
qn8i) is it ok to put my set as {0<m<4} without the m: infront?
for 8iiib) if i solve by working out sums, and get 4, will i get 1m?
曜
日
@Mark: Q6(b): ln (5) should be fine - see above ^^
Q8(i): Unfortunately, when enclosed in braces, {0 < m < 4} is not valid set notation as you'll require the "m : " at the front to define "the set of all values of m such that ..."
Q(iii)(b): Marks should be awarded for your workings since there's no requirement in the question to do it strictly via Miss Loi's sketching approach ^^

the value for 1ii is exact... need not round off to 3sf..
曜

@Gary: Q1(ii) Umm ...
is exact meh?
is exact meh???
曜
日
@Miss Loi: idk eh.. my calculator show 9 digit...
曜

@Gary: Umm ... this is what's showing in Miss Loi's calculator right now:
You mean yours didn't show the final digit '5'?

Dear Ms Loi,
I would like to refer to the questions 3(ii) and 5(ii), wherein there is a need to express ∫ y dx. I have done the first part, that is, expressing ∫ y dx, with the letter 'c' to represent a constant. However, when I am asked to evaluate, I exclude the letter 'c', since I know that these will be definite integrals.
Will that be accepted? If that is wrong, then how many marks do you reckon will be deducted?
曜
日
@Hallowed Hood: Actually the + c are not written within definite integrals since they cancel out each other anyway.
Thanks for the catch! v1.1 of the suggested solutions has been uploaded to reflect this.
Now to wonder why they were left there in the first place *scratches head*

Hello Ms Loi, i just like to ask for the geometrical proof question. Is it ok if i let angle spq be a and angle rbp be 2a. Am i assuming? Is it wrong?
曜
日
@sad: Umm ... as with each step in a 阴阳眼 Geometric Proof question, you'll need to explain (with the relevant theorem/property) how you arrived at ∠SPQ = 2∠RBP before you can assign suitable variables to them.
In this case, Miss Loi may have dropped her 阴阳 glasses as she can't figure out how your assumption can be derived *scratches head*
曜
日
@Miss Loi: I did everything correctly. I just assigned wrong variables. Will i get method marks? 8 marks gone down the drain because of a silly mistake.
曜
日
@sad: This qualifies for a similar answer as this.
曜
日
@Miss Loi: Ok. Thank you Miss Loi.

Ms Loi, what do you the A1 will be for amath and emath this year? And can you post chemistry paper 2 answers?
曜
日
Hi. I'm just wondering how much must I score upon 100 overall to secure an A1?
Also for the plane geom questions can't the last part be proven by alt segment thm?
Thanks
曜
日
@Fiona: Can!
Think Miss Loi should include this as an alternative method in the solutions! [Edit: Just included this in v1.2!]

Hi Ms Loi..
for the modulus graph qn8iii
the question asked me to find the number of solutions..
but i did not have much workings ( change the subject of formula to y=....) as my graph i drew in part ii is drawn to scale.. i just read off from the graph and just wrote 2 and 3 as the ans.. will i get penalized for not drawing a line on the graph? but the question simply said find the solution.. and it 4 Marks...:((
曜
日
@Gary: Miss Loi believes the intention of Q8(ii) is not for you to draw the graph to scale on the graph paper but this shouldn't affect your marks for part (ii).
Part (iii), however, did not specifically state how you should obtain the number of solutions so you should gain the relevant (at least 2) marks for your correct answers. Any remaining method mark(s) will depend on whether your method (which you should clearly state that you read off your accurate graph) is acceptable to the mark scheme. Good luck! ^^

For qn11 I differentiated correctly but subbed in the wrong points to find coordinates of C.for part 2 i integrated correctly but my answer is wrong due to part 1. Will I get any method marks
曜
日
@Ng Guan Zhi: Q11(i): Sounds like a valid case for method marks according this. Moreover the 6 marks on offer here should be enough to include an method mark or two ^^
Q11(ii): Seems like a case for ECF. Again there's a high possibility the 6 marks here allows for that. But then again, the overlord called the Mark Scheme will ultimately determine if ECF is applicable here.

Hello! Thanks for putting up the answers. If I didn't put 90 degrees as one of the solutions, how many marks will I lose? Have a nice day! 🙂
曜
日
@myriadofcolours-: Aiyo ... another one who "lost" a cos x when solving the trigo equation in Q2(ii). Number of mark(s) lost will depend on the mark scheme 🙁
曜
日
Hi Miss Loi, for the modulus question, i solve part iii using equations instead of drawing a line, but i still get 2&3 solutions, do i still get the mark??
曜
日
@michelle: For Q8(iii), no problemo with using equations, as long as you spotted the repeated solution of x (which you apparently did!) ^^
