A tear flowed from the Librarian’s eye as peace finally returned to her beloved library, ending months of suffering during The Occupation by the invading horde of chattering students.
The McDonald’s/Starbucks Manager heaved a sigh of relief as he surveyed his empty restaurant. Perhaps he can start thinking about profits now after months of mounting losses from the student-declared “1 × Ice Lemon Tea/Frappuccino = Table For A Day” campaign.
The foreign cleaner at Changi Airport wondered what had happened to all the “homeless people” who once lined the viewing mall, not realizing that many were now seated comfortably in the planes taking off on the runway beyond.
And thus we enter these laid back times, when hordes of ‘O’ Level students leave their adopted libraries, cafes, airports and The Temple behind, when the tumultuous events of the past month are but a distant memory (in fact some now doubt if they ever happened at all), and when there’s time to sit at the beach all day to mull about life beyond 16 (ok, 17 for some).
Incidentally, for the past weeks, Miss Loi has also been planning intensively for her life beyond 16, being a maths tutor by day and swapping her textbooks for these books when night comes:
as well as trying to squeeze the entire series of 《宮心計》 into her iPod Touch
Yes, as 2009 draws to a close with her last Jφss Sticks session on 16 December, that Changi Airport cleaner may yet be able to catch a glimpse of Miss Loi’s plane taking off.
As such Miss Loi shall be away
to live out the remainder of 2009 somewhere away from it all − away from The Temple, away from Ten-Year Series, away from Mathematics, and most certainly far away enough from any of Singapore’s 3G networks to cost her a bomb if she picks up your call.
So with next year’s Semester I Weekly Jφss Sticks Sessions schedule already out, and if you’ve been wanting all along to book a slot, or simply long to hear Miss Loi’s sweet voice, you better call her now before she
DISAPPEARS …
.

.
OK till next time, and should you never ever hear from Miss Loi again (choy!), it’s Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year!

Life beyond 16? What an apt pun (intended or otherwise).
*mumbles to self: "Shouldn't it be 'life beyond 2x16' for Miss Loi?"*
*runs far far away*

Applaud u for your stamina and ability to multi-task. Been meaning to do more travelling but time and budget don't seem to permit. 《宮心計》 is also on my MUST-DO list, but I think by the time I get to the 1st episode, SCV would have started broadcasting! Share with me your secrets to time management!

mathslover + tohkiat, as per your exam it's very important to read your passage properly! Miss Loi's 16 refers to her last joss sticks session on 16 Dec 2009 which just ended today! Sigh ... how to score like this?
Janice: After countless sleepless nights (as a result of Miss Loi's great "time-management" skills), 《宮心計》is in!!!
To the airport!

Last word from the airport: Goodbye Singapore, Hello _______ [fill in the blank] 😛

I knew it!
There was a pun, yet stoutly denied by its author!
What has life beyond '16 Dec' got to do with this?

And now this sleepy author has to explain the double pun here at 6am in Doha International Airport i.e.
Having said this, feel free to apply the 2nd pun to Miss Loi too, but please do not square, multiply or add any power to the 16 (unless n < 1) 😛

Hmm... Assuming the site master is born on 1st Jan, and n=0.5, 16^0.5=4, and therefore, the site master is only 4 years old!!! 4 years old, teach secondary maths? Must be a genius!!!!!
