… continued from here.
*BANG* *SLAP*
Professor Loi, sorry sorry I managed to start it up again!
said The Expedition Leader as once again the fruit logo lit up the dusty screen of the iPad Air.
… grrr …
The Awakening
The last AMaths student has just left The Temple, leaving me alone in the cosy Chamber of Awakening to scribble out the suggested solutions to the 2013 O Level AMaths 4038 Paper 1, which has apparently created much angst and woe across the Twitterverse.
While the drilling from the renovation works at Udders Ice Cream downstairs is much less now, the United Square foodcourt has closed again for the day – leaving me stranded for yet another 吃风 night …
Click the button and grab it here!
As usual, please, please leave a comment should you spot any mistake in the solution.
- Before you ask questions like “I lost x marks in Paper 2, can I still get A1/A2/B3/B4/pass?” or “What is the cutoff for A1/A2/B3/B4/C5/C6/D7/E8/F9 this year?”, please understand that Miss Loi is NOT the Bell Curve Goddess.
- Please also understand that, unless things have changed, there is no half-mark awarded in O-Level Maths. Also it is nigh impossible for ECF if the part involved only carries 1 mark.
That aside, here’s the list of possible topics for tomorrow’s A-Maths Paper 2:
- Simultaneous Equations
- Matrices
– remember THE Identity Matrix (I) and don’t anyhow play with the order within your matrix equation har … - Indices
- Surds
- Logarithms (hmmm … not so sure about this but just study lah!)
- Polynomials incl. Factor & Remainder Theorem
- Curves & Circles
- Trigonometric Equations
– where you go round (baby right round) the ASTC circuit with your basic angle) - Graphs of Trigonometric Functions
- Further Trigonometric Identities i.e. Addition/Double angle/Factor formulae
- R-Formulae
– as R-Formula is NOT a given in your formula sheet, check if you need to derive it based on the number of marks in the relevant part - Equations of Tangents & Normal
- Maxima & Minima Problems
- Area of a Region
- Kinematics
- And obviously, last but not least, please, please, please, for the sake of your 7-9 marks … may your 阴阳眼s of Plane Geometry come.
– remember all the ang moh phrases i.e. “at rest”, “stationary”, “initial”, “constant”, “change direction” etc. and their meanings with regards to s, v, a and t
I wish those taking AMaths Paper 2 tomorrow, especially all poor O Level Biology students, All THE VERY BEST.
THE END (of this Hell Week) IS NEAR.
Till the next journal entry …

Is it okay if my answer for the estimate of the diamond im 2014 was $12920?

@Javier: $12920 ⇒ ln V = ln (12920) ≈ 9.467 (3sf)
Based on the given scale of the ln V-axis, the smallest graph paper unit is 0.01. Plus given that only an estimate is required, your 9.467 vs our 9.465 is really, really close enough so "DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY"!
